DENTAL IMPLANTS today are generally made of titanium and are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. They are shaped like roots of teeth and form a strong FOUNDATION for what is truly wanted and needed by you the patient- strong and healthy REPLACEMENT TEETH. The Implants are usually placed by a Surgical Specialist, a Periodontist or an Oral Surgeon, who has extensive advanced surgical training and experience. In virtually all cases, the Surgeon will NOT design and place the Dental Implant Supported Rehabilitation (the Replacement Teeth).

What most people are not aware of is that after you have the Implants placed by a Specialist, you can also have the Replacement Teeth placed by a Specialist- a Prosthodontist. A Prosthodontist is a University trained Tooth Replacement Specialist- specializing in the Cosmetic Restoration and Replacement of Teeth. There are many highly qualified Family Dentists on Long Island. There are very few Prosthodontists. This is part of what makes Prosthodontists the best kept secret in Dentistry here on Long Island!

What this means for you is that your new Implant Supported Rehabilitation (the Replacement Teeth that are connected to the Implants) will be designed and placed by an expert with 2 full years of additional Specialty training and years of experience. Once the Teeth are placed, chances are you will never feel or see your Implants again. What you will see and feel EVERY DAY are the Replacement Teeth.

The shape, color and positioning of your new Teeth are crucial to what is most important- the everyday Comfort, Chewing Ability, Appearance and Long Lasting nature of your new Implant Supported Rehabilitation.

After your Implants are placed by a Surgical Specialist, we highly recommend that you also have the Replacement Teeth placed by a Specialist. When one or a few teeth are missing, a well trained Family dentist should be able to place new teeth. However, when all the Upper or Lower Teeth are missing, or a significant change in the bite or appearance is needed, it is highly beneficial to see a Prosthodontist to design and place the Implant Supported Rehabilitation.

Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions regarding Dental Implants, or when you are ready to schedule an appointment. Second opinions and New Patients are always welcome. We look forward to seeing you!
